Benson is 3!

I can hardly believe this is true!!

Let's party!

Benson loves to eat pancakes for breakfast. He especially loved the candles and wanted to blow them out more than once. After breakfast he said, "mom, I'm growing up way fast." I said, "I know Benson, I guess I shouldn't feed you anymore vegetables- only candy." He giggled and then said, (I'm not joking- this is true) "And mom, I'm going on a mission. . . . tomorrow." Hold up little guy- not so fast. I know it will feel like 'tomorrow', but just hearing him say that was sobering. The sad thing was that for me in so many ways it feels like we just added him to our family, and then he turned three the next day. However, it feels like my life before Benson is so far away, as if he's been a part of my life for so much longer than three years. Oh, he is such my little buddy!!! This was the beginning of a fun day!

He's always been in to golf- hence the golf theme.

He insisted on wearing his too big byu t-shirt from G. Jones for his party.
I loved it because it's so him.ew

Party food. Missing in this photo is the yummy philly cheese steak sandwiches that were busy broiling in the oven.

Benson's golf ball cake nestled in a bed of grass. It was really fun to make until the top half shifted 1/2 way off of the bottom. I managed. The important part is that Benson thought it was really cool.

All the boys played, "closest to the pin", our adaptation from pin the tail on the donkey. They had a lot of fun spinning and then trying to place the paper golf ball closest to the hole.

Time for presents. He got so many fun toys and books! He really loves opening gifts this year, and he knew who each present was from. I loved hearing him say "thank you" and give hugs, however after a couple of presents he was more anxious to get to the next one than give hugs anymore.

Then it was time to bring out the golf ball pinata to bust open with a 9 iron. Kimball and I had been layering it for a couple of days so Benson knew about it and was really excited for his chance at bat. However, it took several swings from Tyler and Zach to expose the goods. It was really fun to watch.

It was a really fun day and we appreciated all of our family coming to celebrate with us. We had a great time and Benson felt like the center of attention! This marks the beginning of another stage of Benson's growth and development. They change so fast as babies, but I feel like they change just as fast at this age too. He's always coming up with new ideas, funny comments, and has a constant and strong desire to "grow up and get bigger". I am so lucky to get to witness these daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly changes that influence me, teach me, change me, and make me love him more and more. Benson is truly an AWESOME kid!

How Safe is Your Car?

Don't know why I found this but I located some cool 40 mph crash video's courtesy of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Goto www.nadaguides.com and search for the make, model and year of your car. Below the Price area of the vehicle description should be a list of options, one of which will be Pictures and Videos, you want "crash videos." Check it out to see your car mangled. That had me curious about other safety factors about my car. All these things I didn't consider before I bought my car ;). Go to IIHS.org. Their site is pretty cool but difficult to navigate. Again, locate the vehicle search page in the Vehicle Ratings area and see how you fare. I even found an article and video that explained how much I can expect to pay if my bumpers get into a 6 mph crash with a pole. $1543. Ouch!

Email

A few months ago my mom called me when they were setting up an email account for Grandma Lorraine. She and dad were doing it together and they were quarreling over which email address that I use. My mom had one and my dad was certain that I use another. I didn't realize she called me on speaker phone...

Mom: Kimball, what email address do you use?
Me: I use gmail
Mom: That's what I thought. Dad is adamant you use hotmail
Me: Well for Dad I do use that one because he only sends me Forwards.
Dad: Hey! I heard that!
Me: Oh! Hi dad.
Mom: So which email address do you want me to set up for Grandma?
Me: gmail

Needless to say that now the cat is out of the bag that I had dad on a clever email filter he no longer sends me email to hotmail, his forwarded emails goto gmail. This Dilbert comic made me think of that experience and the want to remember it.

While we're on topic, here are a few good articles on forwarding/replying to email:

And just so you don't miss out on a sample received email. I present you:

Snow Canyon

Was in St. George for work the other day and we went to Snow Canyon for a little R&R. I busted it out 2 miles in deep sand to Three Ponds to see tadpoles in dirty water but the scenery was beautiful and a large eagle was floating over head. The desert is great this time of year.
